Position Summary: The position of tax and financial reporting senior/supervisor is being established for the purpose of joining our internal tax team to assist with the preparation of the Firm and its affiliated entities federal, state, and local tax returns, preparation of individual federal, state, and local returns and support for various other tax related matters. The individual will play an important role with preparation of the PMT’s financials and support with leading the annual financial plan. The position will be based in Southfield, Michigan, and will work within Plante & Moran’s Internal Accounting team.


Position Accountabilities:

Firm Tax Returns/Responsibilities – Main – (June to March time frame)

  • Review and/or Preparation of Parent Company P&M Holding Group, LLP partnership tax return and PLLC and related work papers.
  • Review of Entity Tax Returns – CRESA/PMGBAII/PMCF/CRESA Member/MD Hold Co, etc.
  • Distribution of K-1’s and related communications to partners of parent and affiliated entities.
  • Preparation and distribution of partner capital account summary and other related tax information to partners of parent and affiliated entities.
  • Support with Tax Planning for the Firm
  • Assistance with responding to government tax notices and correspondence.
  • Provide support for government examinations.
  • Participation in tax meetings as required.
  • Preparing tax forecasts for management as needed.
  • Support with Preparation/Review of Active/Retired Partner Tax Returns
  • International Accounting and Reporting – New Area

State and Local Tax Return Responsibilities – Main - (Nov to April time frame)

  • Preparation of quarterly estimates for states and cities in which the Firm conducts business.
  • Review and/or Preparation of various state composite income, franchise and excise tax returns.
  • Review and/or Preparation of various local tax returns.
  • Detail review and assist coordinating personal property tax returns as needed.
  • Assistance with responding to government tax notices and correspondence.
  • Provide support for state and city income tax examinations.

Financial Reporting and Analysis – Accounting, Plan and Financial Reporting – Main – (30 to 40 hours/month)

  • Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual financial statements and management reports for Plante Moran Trust
  • Develop Annual Financial Plan (Budget) for affiliated entities
  • Support with Annual Audit with outside auditors
  • Prepare the completion of work-papers needed to prepare the financial statements and tax returns
  • Support in other financial reporting areas as needed either with other Entity reporting or P&M Holding Group, LLP
  • Support with Annual Financial Plan as time permits to develop the plans for Consulting Group, Industry Groups, Offices and Departmental plans

Partner Matter Responsibilities – Support – On going Depending on Activity. (Participation Summer/Fall – NPO Winter/Spring)

  • Key Member involved in the preparation and analysis of Partner Matters including:
    • Retired Partner analysis
    • Participation
    • New Partner Orientation and Presentation
    • Capital Account activity analysis
    • Partner Capital Schedules
    • Annual Partner Intangible Analysis
    • Annual CPI adjustments

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required. CPA designation preferred but not required.

Qualifications:

  • 5 plus years of tax and accounting experience. Must have tax acumen and good project management skills. The skills, knowledge and abilities that are desirable in a candidate that would enable an individual to excel in this position.

Experience:

  • Strong accounting skills necessary to generate, prepare and review on a monthly basis:
    • Tax related general ledger accounts and associated journal entries, including account analysis for parent partnership or affiliates.
    • Strong accounting skills for financial statement preparation and analysis.
    • Acumen for tax reporting in various states including returns, estimates, and foreign based entities.
